MPA and Partners Host Charity Screening of “Rental Family” in Tokyo

February 4, 2026

The Motion Picture Association (MPA), in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Japan, Searchlight Pictures, and Asahi Shimbun, hosted a reception and special charity screening of the feature film Rental Family on February 4, 2026. The event was attended by 130 guests, including the film’s cast, crew, and creative leadership, to celebrate the project’s successful international resonance.

Rental Family serves as a primary example of the evolving synergy between the U.S. and Japanese film industries. The project demonstrates how the integration of major studio support and global distribution networks with Japanese creative vision and local crews can maintain cultural authenticity while achieving global scale. Beyond its narrative achievement, the film prominently features Tokyo, showcasing the city’s potential as a premier filming destination. The production underscores the critical role of Japan’s production incentive programs in attracting high-caliber international collaborations. This project further reinforces the MPA’s ongoing engagement with the Japanese Government and industry stakeholders to strengthen bilateral ties and support the growth of the local production ecosystem.
